When should I see a chiropractor?

You should see a chiropractor when you're a baby, a student, under stress, if you are ill or in pain, if you've been in an accident, competing in sports, and if you want to achieve the best health possible!

How often should I get adjusted? Do I only get adjusted when I am sore or in pain?

You will see a chiropractor more often at the beginning of treatment, during the corrective phase. When you reach the wellness phase of your chiropractic care, we recommend keeping up with regular adjustments to maintain the progress that you made. This varies from person to person.
*If you are looking for a quick fix rather than addressing the cause of the problem, then our office is probably not the right fit for you.

What is the cracking sound when I get adjusted?

The "cracking" sound when you get adjusted is just air being released from in-between your joints. The bones are not cracking during an adjustment.

Are all patients adjusted in the same way?

No. All adjustments are customized by Dr. Devon Coughlin to the individual needs of each person. Dr. Devon is highly trained in various techniques to provide the best care possible for each person. X-rays help to gather the most specific information to correct your condition.

Why should I continue to get adjusted?

You should continue to get adjusted even after your initial problem has subsided to achieve long term correction. If you stop getting adjusted after the initial problem is gone without achieving long term correction, your condition will eventually return and your spine will become misaligned again.

How long will my appointments be?

In our office a regular visit will be no longer than 20 minutes. If you have a re-evaluation or re-x-ray your visit may be slightly longer, but we strive to respect your time while you are under our care.

Why am I doing exercises at the office before and after my adjustment?

There are many benefits to the exercises we have you do in our office. The neck traction and wobble disc prepare your body for your actual adjustment and to help strengthen your neck muscles and to help hold and stabilize spinal adjustments longer.

Is it okay to see a chiropractor during pregnancy?

YES! You should absolutely see a chiropractor when you are pregnant. Not only will getting adjusted provide you with a more comfortable pregnancy, it will also help to insure your labor and delivery are as smooth as possible.

Can my children get adjusted? How old should they be?

Yes, we highly recommend you get your children adjusted. As children develop they experience stresses to the body that are completely normal to growth; like falls and minor injuries. A healthy spine will allow them to heal quickly and optimally. Getting your child's spine checked will also insure that their spine is growing in a straight line from the front and has the necessary curves in the low back and neck. Chiropractic adjustments also help students of all ages concentrate better.

Your child should be evaluated by a chiropractor as soon as possible after birth. We have parents who bring their infants in after birth for a preventative evaluation.

If I'm sore after an adjustment should I use ice or heat?

Soreness after your first adjustment or two is a normal reaction. We recommend using ice for 20 minutes at a time, followed by 40 minutes of rest. We do not recommend heat, as heat may aggravate the area.
